The titans of Tokyo harsh noise, Incapacitants, return to tear another hole in the fabric of reality with “Achilles Tendon Rupture”, their new full-length assault on Coherent States. This isn’t just noise; it’s a psychic evisceration, a full-body immersion in white-hot static, the gnashing of heavy electronics and distorted vocalizations clawing from the void. Incapacitants wield a uniquely particular sonic violence upon the listener. The dominant trademark of their sound is the feeling of asphyxia within an auditory environment that, even after almost 45 years, remains intensely loud, rough, and profoundly physical.

“Achilles Tendon Rupture” is a brutal ballet of feedback and distortion sourced from live excavations at Forestlimit and Bushbash. Untamed and raw, these performances have been subjected to Mikawa’s alchemical studio processes, resulting in a sound that is both ferociously immediate and unsettlingly ALIEN. It’s another strong proof of Incapacitants’ steadfast dedication to “pure noise” -the sound untainted by musicality, human intention, sentimentalism, and all things music- yet vibrating with an almost unbearable life force. Even if it contradicts the very notion of music, in reality it constitutes a transcendence of it as a medium.

The first side, “Against Discordianism”, unfolds in three distinct but equally pulverizing parts. This is a dissection of order, a descent into fractured frequencies, the hum of overloaded circuits and guttural utterances that challenge the very notion of harmony, even noise harmony itself. Flip the cassette, and the onslaught intensifies with “It’s Tough Being SÄ«syphos”, a more overtly chaotic and unforgiving expanse of pure, unadulterated, and extreme harsh noise, driven by relentless frequency mayhem and vocal abrasion. Think “As Loud As Possible” dragged kicking and screaming through a hall of mirrors, then brutally disassembled and re-welded into The New Noise.

Prepare for a full sensory overload.
This is not background music.
This is a confrontation.
This is Achilles Tendon Rupture.
This is INCAPACITANTS!

Incapacitants, a foundational entity in the landscape of extreme sound, was forged in Osaka in 1981 by Toshiji Mikawa. Later solidified as a duo with Fumio Kosakai (renowned for his work with C.C.C.C.), the project has remained a fiercely independent and uncompromising force for over four decades. Eschewing conventional musicality entirely, Incapacitants have cultivated a signature sound built upon towering walls of feedback, piercing high frequencies, and the raw physicality of amplified electronics. Their extensive discography, released on a variety of international underground labels, underscores their enduring pursuit of “pure noise” as an artistic statement and a visceral experience.
